Drawing roadmap. Part 2: Basic shapes in perspective

Image
The very basic skill before drawing thing of a complex shapes is ability to display object of a basic shape in perspective properly. Intial practical task for studens in academic drawing are usually liniar drawing of simple geometric shapes made of gispsun of a similar size (normally it 15x20cm, 20x20cm) for better perception. Even invisible edges must be drawn to execute that task. Check next steps: Part 3: Shapes and shades drawing Part 4: Textures study Part 5: Reflections study Part 6: Drapery drawing study Part 7: Drawing complex shapes  Part 8: Plein air Part 9: Multiple plans study Part 10: Skin painting Part 11: Portrait in collage technique Part 12: Reproduction Part 13: Composition from set Part 14: Same idea in defferent techniques Part 15: Realistic to abstract Part 16: By choice Part 17: Final assesment

Drawing roadmap. Part 3: Shades&shadows drawing

Image
Once you start analyse shadows more priticely you can notice what part of they can look really illogically. In drawing there even considered a lot of types of them. But all that classification is about to difine some rules not to get lost how to draw them correctly.  Than you can procced with next steps: Part 4: Textures study Part 5: Reflections study Part 6: Drapery drawing study Part 7: Drawing complex shapes  Part 8: Plein air Part 9: Multiple plans study Part 10: Skin painting Part 11: Portrait in collage technique Part 12: Reproduction Part 13: Composition from set Part 14: Same idea in defferent techniques Part 15: Realistic to abstract Part 16: By choice Part 17: Final assesment  If that task causes difficulties you can check previous step: Part 2: Basic shapes linear drawing

Drawing roadmap. Part 4: Textures study

All drawings consist of lines and points, even painting constist of spots as well as digital works consist of pixels and that are basic elements of any pictures can express really a lot.  Take a look at Gustav Klimt landscape painting that are dots and spots combined to a beautiful realistic images. Take few things of a different roughness/glossiness for your next art-work, focus on conveyng shapes and textures with strokes directions, length and dencity. You can find next parts here: Part 5: Reflections study Part 6: Drapery drawing study Part 7: Drawing complex shapes  Part 8: Plein air Part 9: Multiple plans study Part 10: Skin painting Part 11: Portrait in collage technique Part 12: Reproduction Part 13: Composition from set Part 14: Same idea in defferent techniques Part 15: Realistic to abstract Part 16: By choice Part 17: Final assesment Check previuos tasks: Part 3: Shapes and shades drawing Part 2: Basic shapes linear drawing

Drawing roadmap. Part 5: Reflections study.

I think the tip:"to draw everything around" not sounds reasonable for all cases. Following path starting from more simple things to more complex and diversive ones it more consiquent and less stressful.  Once you are ok opaque objects and textures in drawing, let continue with adding high polished and glass objects to your compositions. Check next steps here: Part 6: Drapery drawing study Part 7: Drawing complex shapes  Part 8: Plein air Part 9: Multiple plans study Part 10: Skin painting Part 11: Portrait in collage technique Part 12: Reproduction Part 13: Composition from set Part 14: Same idea in defferent techniques Part 15: Realistic to abstract Part 16: By choice Part 17: Final assesment

Drawing roadmap. Part 6: Drawing a shape covered by a drapery.

Image
If you going to draw people well, study how to draw drapery will be definetily helpful on your learning path. I can better understand how materials folds are forming by covering other objects. That study is pretty simple to organize. You can take objects you are already used for still life drawing studies and cover it with drapery.  Usually that study takes two times less time. On a given illustration drapery is hanging on the wall and folds are formed by gravity and it's shades are more  complex than particular basic shapes like cube or sphere. Check next steps here: Part 7: Drawing complex shapes  Part 8: Plein air Part 9: Multiple plans study Part 10: Skin painting Part 11: Portrait in collage technique Part 12: Reproduction Part 13: Composition from set Part 14: Same idea in defferent techniques Part 15: Realistic to abstract Part 16: By choice Part 17: Final assesment

Drawing roadmap. Part 7: Drawing objects of more complex shapes.

Complex forms are actually combination of basic ones. Ones you learn youself see complex form as simple intersected shapes you becom very clear about how to draw every form on the planet. That is the time to start draw complex forms head (horse, human) or trees. Choose your favorite subject and draw compiling your knowlege from previos steps. Then you can continue with tasks listed below: Part 8: Plein air Part 9: Multiple plans study Part 10: Skin painting Part 11: Portrait in collage technique Part 12: Reproduction Part 13: Composition from set Part 14: Same idea in defferent techniques Part 15: Realistic to abstract Part 16: By choice Part 17: Final assesment

Drawing roadmap. Part 8: Plein air painting

Once you feel comfortable with studio drawing it is high time go "pein air".  Off course, you shouldn't wait being perfect at drawing to go draw outdoors. Fine weather is enough to go and start.  It is always recommended to make as many sketches as possible, even when you are at home, but most of things connected with dynamics, movents diversity are usually happening outside.  Better to make sketching even a habit. Just keep youself always equipped with notebook and few color pencils (remember pencil sharpener). Once being compelled to stay in line or waiting for an order in restaurant you can devote some time to sketch. Check next steps: Part 9: Multiple plans study Part 10: Skin painting Part 11: Portrait in collage technique Part 12: Reproduction Part 13: Composition from set Part 14: Same idea in defferent techniques Part 15: Realistic to abstract Part 16: By choice Part 17: Final assesment

Drawing roadmap. Part 9: Multiple plans study

Image
Find multiple plans views to draw for cases when the main object of composition is on the first plan, - on the last plan, - somewhere in the middle. Think how to keep the main objects in focus. Check next steps here: Part 10: Skin painting Part 11: Portrait in collage technique Part 12: Reproduction Part 13: Composition from set Part 14: Same idea in defferent techniques Part 15: Realistic to abstract Part 16: By choice Part 17: Final assesment ____________________________________ The picture above now avaiable at stock  most Tumski

Drawing roadmap. Part 10: Realistic portrait or nude painting to study skin shades.

Image
Our skin has numorous of shades. Sometimes it is cognitively hard to use for skin other colour than dominant one (brown, beige etc.). Skin can actually reflect with gray, green, violet shadows. So I highly suggest to make portrait or nude painting to study skin shades diversity.  Check next step here: Part 11: Portrait in collage technique Part 12: Reproduction Part 13: Composition from set Part 14: Same idea in defferent techniques Part 15: Realistic to abstract Part 16: By choice Part 17: Final assesment

Drawing roadmap. Part 11: Portrait in collage technique.

Image
In following article you are welcomed submit a task of creating portrait in collage technique. You can specify the task of making portraits of letters or text, of fruits, mechanil parts etc. Check next steps: Part 12: Reproduction Part 13: Composition from set Part 14: Same idea in defferent techniques Part 15: Realistic to abstract Part 16: By choice Part 17: Final assesment

Drawing roadmap. Part 12: Make reproduction of masterpiece with complex actor relations

Image
The most important in artpeaces is ability show relations. While on earliest stages of drawing studies it is most aboat objects relations in terms of space, light shadows task for marured painters is setup in clear and expressive way actors relations on the masterwork. So for next step of sharping your drawing skills take your favorite masterpeace with complex actors relations on it. Define all movemets directions. Make a copy focusing on keep artwork relations and dynamics.
